Over Christmas in 2017, Gabriella received the devastating news that her dad had colon cancer.

He had his first operation at his local hospital in Huddersfield and was then refereed to the Leeds Cancer Centre at St James’s Hospital after doctors discovered the cancer has spread to his liver for an operation and chemotherapy.

Thanks to the staff at Leeds Cancer Centre, Gabriella’s dad went into remission after getting the all clear.

Unfortunately, almost two years to the day, when the family should have been enjoying the Christmas break together, they received the worst possible news – that his cancer had returned, this time in his liver.

Gabriella’s Dad began his treatment on the first day of national lockdown, and unfortunately doctors soon discovered things were worse than they first thought, and a tumour had developed on both his lungs.

In September 2020, he went to St James’ Leeds Cancer Centre to have an operation on his lungs as planned, but a routine scan beforehand revealed the tumours has spread all over his lungs and the family received the heart wrenching news that they could not operate.

32-year-old Gabriella said, “It was so hard for Pops, he had to go to the hospital alone for his operation because of the restrictions and hear that traumatising news. The staff were so incredible at this hard time for us, the consultant explained everything to us and reassured us that they would give Pops the best possible care.”

Seeing her father take on this four-year battle and going on the rollercoaster journey with him inspired Gabriella to raise funds to thank the staff at Leeds Cancer Centre and support other patients and families affected by cancer.

On the 1st May, Gabriella joined by her brother, his girlfriend, her best friend and furry friend Rambo took on the Yorkshire Three Peaks and have so far raised over £4,000!
