Online food delivery company, Deliveroo, has donated 3321 meal deals to Leeds Hospitals Charity to support the hardworking volunteers at our hospitals and the Elland Road vaccination centre in Leeds.

Over 970,000 people have now been vaccinated across the city thanks to these volunteers who have given up their time to protect the people of Leeds from COVID-19.

Volunteers stationed at Elland Road stadium had been receiving deliveries twice a week, complete with a range of sandwiches, snacks, and drinks to keep them going during their long shifts.

Sean Wood, Site Manager at the Elland Road Vaccine Centre said:

“Deliveroo has been incredibly responsive to the rapid expansion of our vaccination services. The level of collaboration, compassion and support shown throughout the Covid-19 pandemic has been truly inspiring.

“These generous donations have been a great support to keep our staff and volunteers refreshed, enabling them to continue vaccinating the people of Leeds and surrounding areas. On behalf of #TeamLeeds - Thank you!”

Through their ‘Supporting NHS’ campaign last year, Deliveroo supported NHS charities across the nation, including Leeds Hospitals Charity, who benefitted from a £100,000 donation.

This contribution helped the charity fund health and wellbeing projects to support NHS staff working across Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. The delivery company also donated £10,000 to the charity to sponsor its Christmas campaign and provide food for staff working at the hospital during the holidays.

Will Shu, Founder and CEO of Deliveroo, said:

“Thank you to all the amazing NHS staff and volunteers at Leeds Teaching Hospitals. From the whole Deliveroo team, we are extremely thankful for those who have given up their time to volunteer in vaccine centres and help keep the nation safe. Delivering free meals was a small way of showing our appreciation.”

Esther Wakeman, Chief Executive of Leeds Hospitals Charity said:

“We’re so grateful to Deliveroo for their ongoing support, not only for our NHS heroes working on the frontline, but also the provisions they have donated to the volunteers at our COVID-19 vaccination centres. All of these selfless volunteers are working hard and are at the forefront of our city’s efforts to ensure that the people of Leeds are safe during the pandemic.”
