In April 2021, we opened the doors of our first community-based charity shop at Crossgates Shopping Centre.

Following the success of the first store, a second charity shop opened at the Merrion Centre in June. In the heart of Leeds, this shop is located just around the corner from Leeds General Infirmary, one of biggest hospitals funds raised will help support.

As the charity partner for Leeds Teaching Hospitals, every item donated to, or purchased from both charity shops will support the incredible work of over 20,000 NHS staff working across our hospitals.

Thanks to a generous donation from local IVECO and FIAT Dealership –Northern Commercials, the charity shops will have their very own Leeds Hospitals Charity van. This will enable both stores to offer a free collection service to supporters in the local area who have a larger donation to make or are unable to travel to store to drop off items.

Roger Peel, Managing Director at Northern Commercials commented:

“We are proud to support the Leeds Hospitals Charity with the use of an Iveco Daily Van. Seeing so many volunteers give up their own personal time to help run the charity is heart-warming. This is the least we could do to support such a great organisation. We are a locally founded organisation and in line with our corporate values, we like to give back to the community wherever possible.”

An independent business formed in 1971, Northern Commercials are a local commercial vehicle dealership, specialising in the Iveco and Fiat ranges. They operate from 5 locations across the UK and pride themselves on customer satisfaction.

There is a team of seventy volunteers who give up their time to volunteer across both retail stores, many of whom have been cared for at Leeds Teaching Hospitals or are thankful for the care their friends or family members have received.

In the lead-up to the busy Christmas period, donations are needed more than ever. The charity is encouraging the people of Leeds to shop local and support Leeds Teaching Hospitals this festive season.

Kelly Myers, Head of Retail at Leeds Hospitals Charity explains the difference this new van will make:

“We’re so grateful to Northern Commercials for their generous donation. Since our shops opened, we’ve had lots of requests asking if we can pick up items from people’s homes but unfortunately, we haven’t had transportation to arrange this. I’m thrilled that we can now offer the public a free collection service, helping our two wonderful charity shops benefit from even more donations to support our NHS hospitals in Leeds.”
