In recognition of International Day of the Midwife, we’re celebrating some of the wonderful midwives working across Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.
Julia Lamprey is the Fetal Medicine Team leader. The Fetal Medicine Unit is a team of experienced and highly specialised fetal medicine consultants and midwives.
Each year there are 1,000 new referrals to the service and the team carry out 3,500 scans. The team care for women with a high risk of a fetal abnormality and perform diagnostic tests to help support women throughout their pregnancy and birth.
Thanks to your donations, we’ve funded new ultrasound couches for the unit, to help pregnant women feel more comfortable during their examinations.
Julia spoke to us about the difference these couches will make:
“The couches will not only help women feel more at ease during their ultrasound scan, they will also make it easier for our team to carry out examinations. We need to monitor women with fetal abnormalities throughout their pregnancy and will need to come to the unit regularly for scans and monitoring, so having an environment that makes them feel comfortable is so important to us.”
