I Run For Rob because…

“I want to help give people living with MND and their loved ones hope for the future.”

James is a retired GP and spoke to us about why he’s getting his running shoes on at the Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon 2023.

“Throughout my career, I’ve always had an interest in sports medicine. I worked with Yorkshire County Cricket Club in Leeds for a number of years and occasionally crossed paths with the Rhinos players while I was there.

“During my years as a GP, MND was a ‘hidden disease’ and I was always aware that there was very little we could offer to MND sufferers and their families. Sadly, although awareness has improved the outlook hasn’t as yet. I recently lost a friend to MND and it was devastating to watch such a strong man succumb to this cruel disease.

“I was fit and active when I was younger, but I’ve definitely slowed down over the years. I’ve never done a marathon before, but when I saw the Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon I thought to myself ‘there must be a marathon in me somewhere’ and snapped up one of the places!

“The route goes right past my house, so when I’m struggling to get round, I’ll hopefully get a boost as my family and neighbours line the streets to cheer me on!”
