Leeds Hospitals Charity - Board of Trustees

Leeds Hospitals Charity has a fully independent Board of Trustees, appointed as Directors of Leeds Cares (Company Number 10492128 t/a Leeds Hospitals Charity), incorporated under the Companies Act 2006 as a private company and is registered with the Charity Commission (charity no. 1170369).

The Board of Trustees currently comprises eleven Trustees with scope for up to fifteen Trustees. The current Chair is Mr Edward Ziff OBE DL Hon DBA, who is in his second three-year term as Trustee and Chair of the Charity.

Appointment of Trustees

Leeds Hospitals Charity is seeking to appoint additional Trustees to bring it up to the full complement. Successful candidates will be from diverse backgrounds and may have interest and insight into the issues facing health-related charities. Trustees will take a strategic view of the work of the Charity and ensure that its charitable Objects are invariably at the forefront of its work. They will make a thoughtful and principled contribution to the work of the Charity’s Board of Trustees, bringing to bear their analytical skills and encouraging innovation. A willingness to be challenging but constructive, and an ability to engage with detail, are essential for these roles.

We are seeking candidates with a broad range of relevant skills and   experience, ideally in one or more of the following areas (although those with expertise from other sectors will also be considered):

  • Finance, including expertise in investment management
  • Marketing, communications, and public engagement
  • IT management

Successful candidates may have experience as a Trustee, or similar role, of a large, hospital-based independent charity, or a national charity in a similar sector, but this is not essential.

Leeds Hospitals Charity values diversity and aims to attract talented people from all backgrounds and communities. We strongly encourage applications from groups which are under-represented in the charity sector, and on our existing Board, including, in particular, candidates with protected characteristics under the Equality Act 2010.

Those considering making an application may wish to discuss the opportunity with the Chief Executive of Leeds Hospitals Trust, Esther Wakeman, who can be contacted through Helen Merritt, Executive Assistant to the Chief Executive, at [email protected].

Appointment process and how to apply

Applications should consist of a full Curriculum Vitae detailing professional qualifications and experience. CVs should be accompanied by a covering letter describing briefly how candidates meet the recruitment criteria, why the appointment is of interest and what they believe they can bring to the role.

Please send completed applications to the Company Secretary of Leeds Hospitals Charity at [email protected]

Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed by an interview panel chaired by the Chair of Trustees, Edward Ziff OBE DL Hon DBA.

Closing date for applications is noon on Wednesday 31 March 2021.
