Leeds Children's Hospital is one of the UK’s largest specialist children’s hospitals

Every year more than 11,000 children are admitted to Leeds Children’s Hospital for an inpatient stay. That’s the equivalent of more than one admission every hour, every day of the year.

By donating or leaving a gift in your Will to Leeds Hospitals Charity, you can fund the things that make a real difference to patients and their families, and help to enhance the care Leeds Children's Hospital already provides. This includes life-saving equipment, treatments and research into rare diseases, and helps to bring hope, happiness and home comforts to every bedside.

Your donation helps Leeds Children's Hospital to be their very best for your loved ones, when they need it most. Can you support them today?

Because of Play...

Thanks to your donations, the Play Team are available seven days a week across Leeds Children’s Hospital.

Our Play Leaders and Play Specialists do an incredible job, supporting seriously ill children throughout the most difficult time of their young lives.

But this can only continue with your support. It costs £106 a day to fund a play team member.

Together, we can deliver play to every child in hospital who needs it.

Meet our patients

“They are there every morning to play, sing, and help James develop. They are there on the hardest days too: running towards emergency alarms, distracting him during painful procedures"

 - Cayleigh, James's Mum

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the charity do? How do you make a difference?

We are a grant giving charity, rather than providing direct services in the hospital. This means we award grants to fund projects across the hospitals.

This might be purchasing a new surgical robot, or equipment for the wards, investing in innovative research or funding a new specialist staff member. We also fund smaller projects that can make a big difference to patients and families, things like comfort care packs for families and care bags for patients with learning disabilities.

How does play help seriously ill children?

Main article: The Play Team at Leeds Children's Hospital - Frequently Asked Questions

There are many different types of play, from normalizing the hospital experience, to preparing a child for a difficult procedure using specialist dolls, books and other age-appropriate resources that can help a child overcome fears that have previously prevented treatment. Or distracting them using bubbles, puppets, books, music, guided visualisation, and virtual reality, to reduce anxiety.

Our Play Specialists and Play Leaders are a friendly face to children and their families during the most difficult time. They’re also great at helping children feel included. Making unbearable procedures bearable, which speeds up treatment, recovery and rehabilitation. And simply making children smile, giggle and have huge belly laughs.
