Education

In 2025/2026, we committed over £100,000 to educational initiatives that help staff develop their skills and knowledge, ultimately improving patient care.

This investment accounts for around 4% of our total grant funding.

2025/2026 Education Funding List

Providing educational opportunities to Leeds Teaching Hospitals Staff can expand their knowledge base and therefore improve patient care. At Leeds Dental Institute, two Dental Nurses have been trained to deliver Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for anxious patients. This will offer patients practical support to overcome their fears and reduce the barriers to accessing dental treatment.

Staff are supported to share their learning at conferences, for example at the Northern Metabolic Network Meeting and the Vascular Surgical Society Conference. By sharing research outcomes and best practice, we can improve healthcare delivery both in Leeds and beyond. This is crucial for teams tackling rare conditions, such as the Cystic Fibrosis team at Leeds, to stay up-to-date on the latest discoveries and new treatments.

Educational projects can also mean better information for patients, so they are informed on their treatments and can feel more confident. This year, the Leeds Liver Unit hosted the Liver Transplant Patient Experience day, for patients of all ages to learn how best to care for their transplanted liver. Over at Chapel Allerton Hospital, the Dermatology team have collaborated with patients to create a new series of educational videos about melanoma. Investing in patient education can reduce anxiety, empower patients to take ownership over their care, and ultimately improve outcomes.
