Leeds Hospitals Charity supporter, MedEquip4Kids, a charity that improves the health and wellbeing of babies and children in the UK by providing equipment to hospitals, have purchased four new chairs for the dialysis unit at Leeds Children’s Hospital.

Children on dialysis need to visit the hospital three times a week, spending four hours attached to a dialysis machine to receive life-saving treatment for kidney failure.

Richard Carless, Paediatric Renal Nurse Specialist spoke to us about the difference the new chairs are making:

“Our dialysis chairs were over two decades old and showing lots of wear and tear and were uncomfortable for our young patients. We’re incredibly grateful for the new chairs, they have not only benefitted our patients, but also the staff caring for them, as the height adjustable feature reduces the risk of musculoskeletal injuries.

“The new chairs have transformed the patient experience, staff wellbeing and the patient environment with the bright colours. “

A young patient who visits the hospital regularly for dialysis said:

"The new chairs make the dialysis unit much more colourful!”

Dr Ghazala Baig, CEO of MedEquip4Kids said:

“At MedEquip4Kids, our mission is to ensure every child receives the best possible care and support during their time in hospital. Dialysis can be a difficult and lengthy procedure for children, and these specialised chairs are designed to provide greater comfort and dignity, helping reduce the stress and anxiety of treatment.

“We are deeply grateful to our supporters and partners whose generosity makes these vital contributions possible. Leeds Children’s Hospital is doing incredible work, and we’re proud to be part of their journey to improve children's healthcare.”

We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to MedEquip4Kids for their kind support.
