Terry, a patient involved in a clinical trial to make surgery safter for cancer patients

Donations have enabled Leeds Hospitals Charity to invest almost £250,000 to support this research, helping to fund a research fellow and clinical research nurse to conduct a feasibility trial.

Alexios Dosis, Clinical Research Fellow said:

“There are only a few studies across the globe using wearable technology in the preoperative setting in clinical trials, and this funding has enabled Leeds to become the first to use innovative medical grade technology in research to make surgery safer for patients.”

Update on Applications for Funding from April 2024 over £10,001

There will be opportunities to apply for both Standard, Research, and Innovation funding from April 2024 onwards.

We are working closely with the Trust to develop a programme of funding calls that align with the charity’s impact areas (Innovation & Health Technology, Reducing Health Inequalities and Treatment of Rare Conditions) and will support Leeds Teaching Hospitals to deliver on one or more of its 7 commitments.

These opportunities will be open to all staff and services at LTHT, and we will be as transparent as possible in our communications, this will include sharing the background and rationale for each funding call as well as information about the application criteria, expectations and timescales.

We recognise that staff have limited capacity to complete applications and need information about available funding in advance, and with sufficient detail to enable decision-making. To ensure the process is as efficient as possible we will share information via our website, newsletters, in meetings with staff etc. enabling discussion and exploration of ideas prior to application or expression of interest.

More information about the first funding calls will be published soon.

Leeds Hospitals Charity is proud to fund a range of projects across Leeds Teaching Hospitals to make a real difference to patients, families and staff.

If you have any questions, please get in touch with us via [email protected] and we’ll get back to you as soon as we can.

Best wishes,

Becky, Charlotte, Alex, Jess & Andrea
