To celebrate his 70th birthday, Mike Bosomworth took on an epic challenge to raise funds for the Yorkshire Brain Appeal, a linked charity of Leeds Hospitals Charity.

Mike, who has previously completed cycles across America and Canada to help fund brain research, has recently conquered the UK Ultimate Triathlon, tackling the Iron Man Distance, of a 2.4 mile swim, 26.2 mile run and 112 mile bike ride.

Mike told us why he was inspired to take on this fundraising challenge:

“I am extremely lucky to be mentally and physically still able to ride a bike. There are many people, who because of physical or mental disability, cannot do so. Brain disorders can rob people of both their mental and physical ability. Dementia not only does that, but it also takes away a person’s memories and dignity. As a retired Clinical Scientist I know how important research is in trying to defeat brain disease.”

Thanks to his heroic efforts, Mike completed this feat in just under 15 hours, raising an incredible £3,360!
