Mark’s role, funded entirely by charitable donations, is dedicated to helping children living with rare neuromuscular conditions access the latest research.Having worked in Leeds since 2018, Mark brings years of experience supporting families through the complexities of clinical trials. “Our ambition is to give every child who comes through the door the option to take part in a clinical trial if they want to,” Mark explains. His work ensures that families have access to the latest research, practical support for travel and expenses, and a compassionate guide throughout their journey. Mark also works with commercial partners, securing funding for new trials and ensuring that doctors and nurses can be freed up to spend more time looking after patients. Mark’s appointment means more children can access potentially life-changing treatments, and families receive the support they deserve. “It’s about making things easy for parents so they can focus on their child’s care,” Mark says. “We don’t just help with getting them involved in research, but also with booking hotels, claiming expenses, and making sure nobody is out of pocket.”This new role is a testament to the reputation of the Leeds Paediatric Neuromuscular service, which is leading the way in supporting patients with devastating conditions like Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) and Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA). The service currently looks after nearly 500 children with neuromuscular disease. Mark works alongside clinicians, research nurses, and administrative staff, all united by the goal of delivering world-class care and research. “Everyone at Leeds works together and is very supportive. It’s a really collaborative effort to make sure patients and families get the opportunities they need.”On behalf of the children, families, and the entire team at Leeds Children’s Hospital, thank you for your generous donations, which fund roles like Mark’s.
