To mark International Day of the Midwife, we’re highlighting some of the incredible midwives who go above and beyond to support their patients.

Louise Holt has been a Midwife on the Delivery Suite at Leeds General Infirmary for thirty years and has seen a huge change in patient-centred care over the years.

Midwives on the Delivery Suite provide care to women across the region, and often women with complex health issues like heart conditions are transferred to Leeds for specialist care during their labour.

Louise and her team strive to provide women and their birthing partners with the best possible care and support their personal birthing choices. They recognise that having a welcoming and comfortable environment on the unit is key to ensuring this.

Thanks to your donations, we’ve provided funding for additional bedside seating on the Delivery Suite. Louise explained to us the difference this will make:

“Everyone’s labour and birth is different, some women can spend days on the unit with their birthing partner, from induction to delivery and after-care. These chairs will provide somewhere comfortable for birthing partners to sit and be at their loved one’s side during labour. This helps create a more relaxed environment for both the mum-to-be and their birthing partner and helps reassure them that they are in safe hands with our team. I always say, ‘a happy midwife makes a happy mum’ and support from Leeds Hospitals Charity really does help us improve the hospital experience.”
