In 2018, Sue was diagnosed with blood cancer. During the pandemic, Sue and her husband decided to relocate to Leeds to be near to family and her treatment at the Bexley Wing, Leeds Cancer Centre.

Sue says: “The wellbeing benefits from volunteering are fantastic. I now spend more quality time doing what I enjoy. I feel connected to the Bexley, because it’s where I’ve been treated and I’ve spoken to so many other people who feel the same. I’ll do anything that feeds my well-being – Leeds Hospitals Charity does that right now."
