The British Transplant Games launch in Leeds this weekend! We'd like to wish all 273 particiants from 'Team Leeds' good luck - we'll be there cheering you all on!

Leeds Hospitals Charity have been supporting the Games for several years and it’s wonderful that after all the unfortunate delays we’re finally able to welcome the Games to Leeds.

We'd also like to say a big thank you to Kidney Care UK who have generously donated £7,500 to support the biggest team of adults and children's taking part with 'Team Leeds' so far!

Thanks to support from organisations like Kidney Care UK, we've been able to make sure the 2022 Games are extra special this year.

Paul Bristow, Chief Executive of Kidney Care UK, said: "I am delighted that the transplant community is coming together once again and it is fantastic to see so many Teams coming together for the 2022 British Transplant Games in Leeds. As well as being a partner of the Games, I am particularly proud that our charity is supporting 17 teams to take part this year, including the team from Leeds Hospital’s Charity."

Esther Wakeman, Chief Executive of Leeds Hospitals Charity, said: "It’s fantastic when charities can work collaboratively and the support of Kidney Care UK has made such a difference. We’ve been privileged to provide financial support for the event, to ensure that the Games could come to Leeds, and I’m grateful to our Board of Trustees for recognising what a fantastic event this is and the impact it has on athletes and their families.

A big ‘good luck’ to the athletes from all the hospital teams who are taking part this weekend. We’re personally delighted that ‘Team Leeds’ is the biggest team at this year’s event, for what will be their home Games, but of course we’ll be cheering everyone on from the sidelines!"

A big part of our activity this weekend is the Transplant Games Donor Run, where we can all celebrate the gift of life through a 3km or 5km run throughout the city. This year’s event will take place on Saturday 30th July at 6.30pm throughout the Leeds Dock area.

There are still places available, if anyone is feeling energetic you can enter on the day, so please do join us! A big thank you, of course, to all of the volunteers and marshals who are helping to support this event.
