Leeds Virtual Emergency Care Pathway: A Feasibility study

A2003261

This project evaluates the feasibility and safety of a Virtual Emergency Care Pathway (VECP) for low-risk patients. After initial nurse assessment and investigations, eligible patients would be discharged home and reviewed remotely by a senior doctor via telephone the following day. The study will compare current standard care with this virtual approach, measuring total time spent in the ED, patient suitability for VECP, clinician time, costs, and the need for follow-up care.

If successful, VECP could reduce ED crowding, improve patient experience, enhance safety through senior clinician involvement, and support more efficient use of NHS resources. This innovative model aims to safely manage suitable emergency patients remotely while allowing the ED to focus on more urgent cases.
