A trainee-led research network for intestinal and general surgery

A2002874

The White Rose Surgical Collaborative (WRSC) is a trainee-led research network for intestinal and general surgery. It was established in 2022 by trainee surgeons at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust (LTHT) with the aim of delivering high quality, collaborative audit and quality improvement projects. The group promotes collaboration at LTHT between multidisciplinary healthcare professionals involved in surgical care, including nurses, trainee doctors, and allied health professionals involved in surgical care. It also promotes collaboration on a regional basis between trainees at LTHT and other sites in Yorkshire to facilitate shared learning across organisations.

The new aim of WRSC is to consolidate local efforts in audit and quality improvement in surgery to foster a collaborative environment in surgery at LTHT and beyond with colleagues around Yorkshire. The pipeline projects include the “Management of Appendicitis in Pregnancy (MAMA)” audit, as well as a project to investigate the use of surgical equipment during gallbladder surgery to reduce its environmental impact. The funding will help to produce a new website, produce a regular newsletter, access to safe database software for the projects, and funds to share and learn from the findings at LTHT.
