What is your name and job title?

Andrea Douglas – Grants Administrator.

Tell us about your role

My role to assist the grants team with admin, attend engagement days to speak to staff members, members of the public and patients about what we do and all the things we have funded - from little things like comfort packs for staff and patients to big pieces of equipment.

I also help applicants to fill in the application forms and signpost them for further assistance if needed.

When did you join the charity?

I joined the charity in September 2016.

Why did you choose to join the charity?

I chose to join the charity as I am an outgoing person and a people’s person. I have also spent time in hospital, and I wanted a way where I could give something back.

Do you see opportunities for career progression at the charity?

There is always opportunity for career progression, and staff are able to speak to their managers in their 1-1s about this.

What do you enjoy most about working for Leeds Hospitals Charity?

I enjoy the variety of work, but I really enjoy the extended family approach to each other.  We try to live by our values and use them in our day to day.

The icing on the cake is how proud I feel when we are supporting staff, carers and patients through funding, hearing those success stories and how grateful everyone is.

What has been a key highlight of your time at Leeds Hospitals Charity?

For me, it's my colleagues and how we support each other. But I think attending World Cancer Day was the biggest part, at I got to see first hand where the funding for R&I went, and how they are able to progress further through our support.
