Welcome to the Winter edition of our quarterly newsletter! In this issue, we are thrilled to highlight more amazing projects that Trusts and our vital supporters have helped bring to life. Together, we continue to transform the lives of patients, families, and staff at The Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust by funding projects that go beyond core NHS services.

What your support looks like:

Reaching a fundraising milestone: Rob Burrow Centre for Motor Neurone Disease

Thanks to incredible supporters, we have reached the fundraising target for the Rob Burrow Centre for Motor Neurone Disease. This state-of-the-art facility will bring all MND services under one roof, improving the lives of patients and their families. Named after rugby legend Rob Burrow, who has inspired countless people through his own MND journey, this centre will offer holistic care and support for those navigating this challenging condition.

Revolutionizing Leeds Cancer Centre!

Thanks to the incredible support from our community, we are thrilled to announce the introduction of a ground-breaking £2.4 million MRI simulator machine.

Operational since May 2023, this innovative technology is now enabling MRI-only radiotherapy, making Leeds only the second cancer centre in the UK to offer this cutting-edge treatment. MRI-only radiotherapy means:

  •  More precise targeting of tumours
  • Reduced side effects
  • Shorter treatment times
  • A more comfortable experience for patients

Innovation Showcase: Meet the Exhibitors

We recently hosted an Innovation Showcase, bringing together cutting-edge projects and technologies that enhance patient care at Leeds Teaching Hospitals. This event celebrated the creativity and dedication of our staff, featuring exhibits on advanced medical devices, digital healthcare solutions, and more. Research and innovation is one of our key impact areas, and since the launch of our strategy in 2021, we have invested over £7 million in this area. The support we receive fuels this innovation, helping us remain at the forefront of healthcare excellence.

How you can help

Alaa’s Story: 7 Days of Play

The generosity of our supporters is already making a difference for young patients like 11-year-old Alaa. Alaa’s condition requires regular hospital visits, which can be overwhelming. Play can transform the hospital experience by keeping children engaged and reducing their stress. That’s why we launched the "7 Days of Play" appeal—to bring tailored activities and toys to more young patients like Alaa, helping brighten their hospital stays and provide comfort during challenging times.
