We were looking for applications that will pump prime research that will benefit patients treated at Leeds Teaching Hospitals.

This should be research that has the potential to lead to more, such as a larger grant from a different funder. 

Applicants could apply for:

  • A project grant to build on pilot data
  • A feasibility or proof of concept study

This funding opportunity was open to all staff at Leeds Teaching Hospitals across all Clinical Service Units within both medical and non-medical roles, including staff employed by academic partners who hold an honorary contract with Leeds Teaching Hospitals.


Overview:

  • 8 EOIs were received across 8 Clinical Service Units - 6 of which were invited to make full applications.
  • In November 2024, a total of 2 applications were approved by Research & Innovation Committee totaling £98,466.98 with the potential to impact directly and indirectly 235 beneficiaries including patients, families, and staff.
  • The applications supported Funding Priorities, Research and Innovation.
  • The projects aligned with four different impact areas of focus: Health Inequalities - Cardiovascular, Cancer Care, Innovation & Health Technologies and Treatment of Rare Conditions.
  • 2 applications were approved totalling £98,466.98.
  • The projects approved as part of the Q1 Research Pump Prime Funding Call will be completed by the end of April 2027.
