Overview

Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and Leeds Hospitals Charity are offering pre-application support for research career development fellowships: Boost Your Competitive Edge, funding and dedicated support to help clinical staff prepare competitive applications for research career development fellowships (pre-doctoral, doctoral, post-doctoral). This includes protected time to develop your application, funding for training, patient and public involvement, and academic supervision.

The total maximum per application is £29,500 and will be made up of:

  • Backfill of up to maximum £25,000 including on-costs
  • Training up to maximum £2,000 (can include courses, conference and professional visits)
  • PPIE £500
  • Academic supervision up to £2,000 

What We're Looking For

We seek motivated healthcare professionals committed to pursuing a research career. Your proposed research must have a direct patient focus and demonstrate a clear plan to apply for a nationally competitive research fellowship within two years of this funding. Successful applicants will receive financial support and expert guidance to prepare a strong fellowship application.


Eligibility

Open to all registered healthcare professionals delivering clinical services at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, including:

  • Doctors, Dentists, Nurses, Midwives
  • Allied Health Professionals, Pharmacists, Healthcare Scientists
  • Chaplains, Social Workers, Health Play Specialists

You must hold a substantive LTHT post, honorary contract, or be on clinical rotation with LTHT.

Crucially, your application must demonstrate:

  • Collaboration with patients using inclusive research methods
  • Support from your academic supervisor and line manager, with formal letters of endorsement
  • Support from your Clinical Services Unit (CSU) tri-team
  • If applicable, endorsement from your training supervisor or deanery
  • A feasible plan aligned with the available funding (up to £29,500)
  • Evidence your proposed activity will strengthen your chances of securing external fellowship funding
  • A track record or previous research interest of the applicant as appropriate for the nominated funder and career level of applicant.
