Proposals should aim to develop non-clinical skills for staff in a clinical setting and link clearly to patient care.

Applicants can apply for funding between £75 and £2,000 for non-clinical skill development for staff working in clinical settings.

We’re interested in receiving applications that:

  • Will develop non-clinical skills in a clinical setting. 
  • Clearly link to patient treatment and care.
  • Evidence the opportunity for the funding to deliver impact to a greater number of staff (rather than being limited to one individual).
  • Evidence compliance with Leeds Teaching Hospitals study leave policies and processes.
  • Outline how learning gained will be sustained and shared.

Applications should demonstrate alignment with one of the Charity’s areas of impact focus:

  • Tackling health inequalities 
  • Treatments of rare conditions 
  • Innovation and health technology

We would also like applicants to consider how a proposal aligns with one or more of the Leeds Teaching Hospitals 7 Commitments for 2024/25.

Example projects

  • Education and training that enables the development of human factors such as:
    • Situational awareness 
    • Teamwork 
    • Communication 
    • Leadership 
    • Decision making 
    • Compassion 
  • Education and training leading to enhancement of skills and knowledge to support the patient experience, outcome, and journey.

Education Q2 Guidance

1. Eligibility

We welcome applications for the Education Q2 Grant Opportunity from staff employed by Leeds Teaching Hospitals who are working in a clinical area.

2. Idea

We encourage potential applicants to discuss their idea with their Line Manager and the Grant Funding team before preparing any paperwork. We also advise that you begin all relevant LTHT processes. before applying to the Charity (e.g. Liaison with Corporate Planning, Medical Physics, Information Technology).

3. Relevance

 We encourage applicants to consider how the proposal aligns with the criteria set out in the Education Q2 grant funding opportunity guidance including how the Small Grants Panel intend to score applications. For this grant opportunity we want to understand which non-clinical skill will be developed and how the education and training will support a team or group of staff rather than an individual.

5. Review & Decision

Applications will be reviewed by the Charity’s Education Panel with input from LTHT stakeholders and Advisors. For this grant round the Panel will meet in November 2023.

6. Monitoring & Evaluation

All successful applicants will be required to complete a Monitoring and Evaluation form and share with the Charity the impact of grant funding through case studies, blogs and news stories.
